The Power of Being a Girl

Posted October 17, 2012

The Public teamed up with the YWCA of Cambridge to participate in their Power of being a Girl conference for young women ages 13-16. For a whole day, girls from both Catholic and Public schools in grade 7-8 enjoyed a few hours of girl time with empowering keynote speakers and activities. Our Media Literacy workshop consisted on empowering young women to look at media icons and magazines to talk about what these are saying about them. Our topics of discussion included: Skin colour, body size, disability, and class in adds and magazine articles.

We are really happy to have attended such a large group of young women and we hope to continue building strong empowered communities where women, girls and trans folk can feel supported and validated!
