Prevent It
Today, Sheila travelled out to PTP Adult Learning and Employment Programs to deliver a campaign and poster making workshop to the Diabetes Prevention Peer Leaders Group. The group has been working hard for the past few months, learning about type II diabetes risk factors and about how nutrition and fitness can be used to prevent its onset.
The group started the day with a delicious healthy breakfast, and then jumped right into work by sharing their expertise around diabetes prevention. Over the course of the day, we took those messages and grouped them together, focused them and brainstormed, and leaders came up with the campaign idea “Prevent It.”
The peer leaders decided to highlight the small, easy and accessible actions that all contribute to diabetes prevention: exercising during commercial breaks, moderating your fast food intake, etc. They designed and created a series of four posters, and a series of “Prevent It” videos, which we’ve uploaded to this YouTube playlist.
It was an absolute joy working with this group. We are all looking forward to implementing some of these suggestions in our own day-to-day lives, and to seeing the peer leaders again at their project celebration, mid-April!
