Unifor Local 414’s subway poster campaign

Posted August 26, 2015

Unifor is Canada’s largest union in the private sector, representing over 305,000 workers seeking to take on the challenge of responding “to the changing economy and these challenging times.”

According to Unifor, retail is the largest and fastest growing sector in Canada’s economy, and yet it is also the industry that pays the lowest wages, has the highest turnover, and provides the fewest hours of work. Workers at Metro grocery stores (Local 414) — representing roughly 4,000 workers at 28 stores across the GTA — want to change this by demanding a living wage and fair working conditions.

The Public worked with Unifor to design a subway poster campaign that highlights the many intersections of job insecurity and inequity that Metro workers currently face.
